It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Tom Kramer, a longtime seasonal camper, dedicated security guard, and cherished friend of the Otter Lake community. For decades, Tom was more than just a familiar face around the campground — he was a lasting part of its heart and history.
Tom first joined the Otter Lake family as a seasonal camper in the 1970s. Over the years, he became one of the campground’s most recognizable and unforgettable figures. For many seasons, campers knew “Kramer” was making his rounds the moment they spotted his Jeep traveling the roads of Otter Lake. His presence brought a sense of order, familiarity, and comfort that became woven into the daily life of the campground.
To generations of kids who grew up spending summers at Otter Lake, Tom was the no-nonsense security guard who somehow always seemed to appear exactly when late-night mischief was underway. While he could be firm when needed, those who knew him best understood there was much more beneath the tough exterior. Tom cared deeply about Otter Lake, its traditions, and the people who called it their home away from home.
Beyond his role as security, Tom was a friend to many. He shared conversations around campfires, laughs at picnic tables, and countless memories with campers and staff alike. His stories, personality, and unmistakable presence helped shape the spirit of Otter Lake for generations.
Tom leaves behind decades of memories that will continue to be told and treasured for years to come. Though his presence on the campground roads will be deeply missed, his legacy and the impact he had on this community will never be forgotten. Otter Lake was better because Tom Kramer was part of it.
