Judy Rice dedicated her life to the art of dance with exceptional passion, discipline, and grace. Since joining the University of Michigan faculty in 1990, she became a treasured member of the SMTD community and an inspiration to aspiring dancers and performers. Recognized as the inaugural recipient of the SMTD Teaching Excellence Award, Judy exemplified commitment to artistic excellence and educational leadership throughout her distinguished career.
A graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada, Judy performed extensively across the United States and Canada with renowned companies including the Joffrey Ballet, the National Tap Dance Company of Canada, and American Ballet Comedy. Her remarkable stage presence and technical brilliance earned admiration from colleagues and audiences alike. Beyond her accomplishments as a performer, she became widely respected for her extraordinary ability to guide and inspire students.
